QUICK FACTS
Summary
When I first heard about Kojo, I was really skeptical that it could make my life easier. Once I started using Kojo, it saved me so much time.

Project Management Assistant, Blackwater Electric
It is very clear what is needed for assemblies in our prefab shop with Kojo. If an assembly has six parts, we can see all six parts. And it is all right there in one system for the field team to order.

The Story

Blackwater Electric, based in Chesapeake, VA, serves government, industrial, and commercial clients with a focus on staying lean and efficient. Director of Special Projects Jerry Wasson is the gatekeeper for all tech investments—if it doesn’t drive ROI or eliminate redundancy, it’s out.

But parts of their procurement process—especially around warehouse inventory and prefab—were still stuck in silos. Requisitions were scattered, tracking was nonexistent, and the phones never stopped ringing. Solving for POs alone wasn’t enough. They needed a system that unified all teams—from prefab assemblies, to warehouse stock, to the field—into a single workflow.

When a few team members discovered Kojo at a conference, interest sparked. The ability to instantly write POs and push them into their accounting system, ComputerEase, was compelling. Jerry got involved, along with Project Management Assistant Brandi Morris, who is responsible for writing purchase orders at Blackwater. At first, Brandi was skeptical—ComputerEase was her comfort zone. Could another system really make her job easier? It was Jerry’s job to find out.

The Solution

Blackwater rolled out Kojo’s Procurement solution first, then quickly brought prefab and warehouse materials into the fold. From onboarding to go-live, the transition was smooth—thanks to Kojo’s intuitive design, effective Kojo Academy training, and responsive customer support. Jerry called it the smoothest software rollout he’s ever seen, largely because of how quickly the field adopted it.

They set a bold six-week deadline for getting every field requisition—warehouse, prefab, or PO—into Kojo. It worked. Now, field teams place all requests in one place through Kojo to the warehouse manager Richard Clark, whether it's drawing from inventory, ordering prefab, or looping in a PM assistant like Brandi to submit to a supplier.

Brandi’s doubts disappeared once she started using Kojo and truly exceeded her expectations. She now manages large-lot POs, prefab and warehouse orders, and accounting tasks all in one spot. It’s simpler, more efficient, and supplier-friendly. Even better, errors across the procurement process have dropped significantly. One feature she can’t live without? Change Orders. With Kojo, she can track revisions with a clear audit trail—something her accounting system couldn’t do alone.

Today, communication across Blackwater’s procurement is stronger than ever. There’s complete transparency into requisitions, inventory, and available prefab assemblies. That clarity helps avoid overordering and cuts down on waste—a huge win for their bottom line. Kojo didn’t just fix procurement. It unified it.
